1918Edwin Hubble created a telescope which enabled him to discover that the Universe was in fact expanding.

1923The first director of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center located in Huntsville, Alabama, Herman Oberth speculates telescope orbit.

1969Lyman Spitzer, an astrophysicist, gets support for a large space telescope.

1977Edwin Hubble is honored by getting NASA's largest, most complex orbital telescope named after him.

1981The Hubble Space Telescope astronomical research center is begins in Baltimore, Maryland.

1990Hubble is deployed into orbit on April 25, two months later, the spherical aberration is discovered in it's primary mirror.

1993On December 2, the shuttle Endeavor is launched to replace several items on the Hubble Space Telescope.

1997A second service mission went out to replace more items on Hubble such as guidance sensors, optical control electronics, and covers for                 magnetic sensing systems.

2014Hubble's predecessor, The James Webb Space Telescope, is set to launch.
